This bunk bed uses slats for both the top and bottom bunks. There are generally 14 slats per slat roll. The guardrails on the top bunk are approximately 13-3/4"H, so it is recommended not to exceed 8" in depth for the top twin mattress. I would recommend staying between 8-9" in depth for the bottom full mattress.
