Does 5 inch drawer extension means that the drawer only comes out 5 inches??

I can’t see a drawer only coming out 5 inches and being use able.

The drawer unit is standard length. The 5" extension goes on either end of the drawer unit to make it flush lengthwise under the xl bed.
